Today is Presidents Day, but there is no flag flying at my house.
As a patriotic American, I celebrate and commemorate most national holidays including both Armistice Day and Veteran’s Day, Union Memorial Day as well as Confederate Memorial Day, etc. However, I do not and will not observe or commemorate today’’s so called Presidents Day holiday which I consider to be the ultimate exercise in political correctness.
With the establishment of President’s Day, Congress has asked us to honor and commemorate all of our Presidents – good, bad or indifferent – equally, in the same way and on the same day. While I honor and respect the Office of the President of the United States, I do not necessarily respect all of the men who occupied it nor will I honor any of them simply because they were once elected President.
…I will not and can not honor sexual predator Bill Clinton in the same way, with the same breath or on the same day as we honor President Ronald Reagan.
…I will not and can honor peacenik Jimmy Carter in the same manner, with the same respect or on the same day as we honor a great American hero and the Liberator of Europe- President Dwight Eisenhower.
..Nor can I honor the serial liar currently occupying the White House today with the same degree of admiration and trust and on the same day that I honor George Washington “who could not tell a lie”.
Instead I choose to individually honor the Presidents whom I admire and who contributed to the greatness of this country on the days of their birth rather than being politically correct and honoring and respecting all former presidents equally. They were not all equal and as individuals do not deserve equal honor or respect.
The Crusty Conservative
“… individuals may injure a whole society, by not declaring their sentiments.
It is therefore not only their right, but their duty, to declare them.”
–John Dickinson, Letters of Fabius, 1788
